Our Transition to Perioperative Practice Program provides structured education, hands-on clinical experience and dedicated support to help you confidently transition into the operating theatre environment.
Gain practical experience across Instrument and Circulating Nurse roles, developing specialist skills while working alongside experienced nurses, educators and senior staff.

About the Opportunity
Scone Hospital is a picturesque rural hospital offering a diverse range of services and the opportunity to develop your nursing skills across multiple clinical areas. The hospital includes a mixed medical/surgical ward, operating theatre, maternity unit, emergency department and onsite medical imaging, providing variety and exposure to a broad range of patients and presentations.
You’ll join a diverse and emerging team where everyone brings different skills and strengths, with plenty of opportunities to learn, develop and expand your clinical capabilities. Located just over three hours north of Sydney, Scone provides easy access to Newcastle, Maitland and the Central Coast, with Tamworth and Armidale further north. You won't be expected to do it alone. You will be supported by an onsite Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) and Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), with a supported orientation period to help you settle into the team and environment.
What You Will Be Doing
As an Enrolled Nurse, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and under the direction and delegation of the Registered Nurse, contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
You will:
- Provide nursing care to patients within your scope of practice.
- Manage an allocated patient load under the direction of the RN.
- Undertake clinical observations, assessments and nursing interventions.
- Recognise and report changes in a patient’s condition.
- Administer medications and undertake clinical procedures within your scope of practice and competency.
- Support patients and their families throughout their care.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with RNs, medical staff and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the ward and delivery of safe patient care.
- Participate in education, professional development and competency-based training.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Enrolled Nurse who is ready to become part of a supportive, young and emerging team.
Ideally, you will have:
- A minimum of 12 months' clinical nursing experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive and team-focused approach.
- The ability to work confidently within your scope of practice and under RN direction.
- A willingness to learn, develop and undertake further training.
- A commitment to safe, person-centred care.
- The ability to adapt to a rural environment and work across different clinical areas as required.
Experience and/or competency in venepuncture and cannulation is highly regarded. If you don't yet have these skills, we will support you to work towards achieving the relevant competencies.
You will also need to be willing to work across other departments within Scone Hospital, or at nearby facilities, when required.
Essential Requirements

Our 14-bed Paediatric Unit provides care for children and young people across a diverse range of presentations, including medical, surgical, orthopaedic and eating disorder care. With permanent full-time, part-time and casual opportunities available, this is an exciting opportunity to join a service where every shift brings something different.
What You Will Be Doing
No two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple areas, broaden your experience and build skills that are transferable across paediatric and special care nursing.
You will:
- Provide safe, high-quality and family-centred nursing care to babies, children and young people.
- Work across Paediatrics and Special Care, gaining experience across a diverse range of clinical presentations.
- Care for premature and newborn babies requiring additional monitoring and support.
- Provide nursing care to children and young people with medical, surgical, orthopaedic and eating disorder presentations.
- Complete clinical assessments and monitor patients, recognising and escalating changes in condition.
- Develop and evaluate individualised plans of care in partnership with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide education, support and reassurance to children, young people and their families.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to work in our brand-new Inpatient Unit, opened in 2026, with modern facilities and a welcoming team environment.
The Inpatient Unit provides care across a diverse range of presentations, including acute medical and surgical care, aged care and palliative care. Working in a small rural team means you will have the opportunity to develop broad clinical skills and provide holistic, person-centred care to patients and their families.
What you'll be doing
As the Registered Nurse in the Inpatient Unit, you will provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care across a diverse patient population.
You will:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's clinical condition.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and scope of practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers and members of the healthcare team.
- Work collaboratively with Visiting Medical Officers and utilise telehealth services to support patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic clinical documentation using the EPIC electronic medical record system.
You will generally work alongside one to two Enrolled Nurses and report to the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), with after-hours support provided by the In-Charge.

Where You'll Be Working
The Mental Health Casual Pool provides flexible nursing coverage across a wide range of inpatient units and community-based mental health services throughout the Local Health District (LHD).
Our inpatient services are located at:
- Waratah
- Newcastle
- Maitland
- Morisset
- John Hunter
- Charlestown
- Taree
- Tamworth
- Armidale
Community-based mental health services also operate across the LHD, offering a variety of clinical environments and opportunities to broaden your experience. Whether you prefer to work in a particular specialty or enjoy experiencing different mental health settings, the Casual Pool gives you the flexibility to choose where and when you work, based on service requirements and your availability.

About the Role
As a member of the Mental Health Casual Pool, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, person-centred care to people experiencing mental health challenges.
You will:
- Provide safe, evidence-based and recovery-oriented nursing care within your scope of practice.
- Support consumers with activities of daily living, personal care and health needs.
- Build therapeutic and respectful relationships with consumers, families and carers.
- Monitor and report changes in consumers' physical health, behaviour and mental state to the Registered Nurse.
- Contribute to the implementation of individualised care plans under the direction and delegation of the Registered Nurse.
- Assist with health promotion, recovery-focused activities and therapeutic programs.
- Support consumers with complex physical and mental health needs.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
- Adapt your practice to different mental health settings and consumer needs.
- Participate in 8- or 10-hour shifts, available seven days a week, depending on service requirements.
- Choose shifts across the LHD at your discretion — work close to home or explore opportunities further afield.
- Participate in community outreach roles where required, noting that some positions, particularly in rural areas, involve travel.
About You
We are looking for Enrolled Nurses who are passionate about providing compassionate, recovery-focused care and enjoy working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.

- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be compassionate, respectful and able to build therapeutic relationships.

- Demonstrate sound clinical skills and the ability to recognise and report changes in a consumer's condition.
- Work within their scope of practice and under the direction and delegation of a Registered Nurse.
- Be willing to learn and develop their mental health nursing skills.
Mental Health nursing experience or qualifications are highly desirable; however, Enrolled Nurses from all clinical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

- Stay at the MRRC while they attend court in the Sydney Metropolitan Area (before returning to their home correctional centre)
- Stay at the MRRC while they await a vacancy at a centre matching their classification.
Most offenders leave the centre within a few months of their arrival, usually because they obtain bail (and release) or transfer centre
