The mental health Registered Nurse (RN) within MHDA services. leads and supports person centered consumer health outcomes with a focus on recovery within inpatient health care settings. The mental health RN assumes a leadership role within the nursing team supporting, teaching, mentoring and leading nursing staff including Enrolled Nurses (EN) and Assistants in Nursing (AIN). The mental health RN leads and supports the implementation of specific mental health nursing care activities that support the multidisciplinary health care team.

The mental health AIN within MHDA Services supports person centre consumer health outcomes with a focus on recovery. The mental health AIN assists the nursing team in the provision of nursing care to mental health consumers within an acute care setting, through directed identified tasks and patient care activities under the direction of RN supporting the consumers recovery. The mental health AIN role supports the RN collecting of health care information, documenting, and communicating the information back to the RN within an identified Mental Health AIN Care Activities Map outlining the scope of practice.

Where you'll be working

The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) Headspace youth mental health initiative is a new multidisciplinary service providing mental health intervention for young people aged 12 - 24, referred through Headspace and requiring more specialised intervention than provided by Headspace, but below the threshold for the community CYMHS service. The program aims for provide trauma informed, recovery focused assessment, therapy, and systemic intervention, and to improve service integration by facilitating care pathways between headspace and CYMHS and vice versa.

The program will provide in-reach to Chatswood and Brookvale Headspace centres, providing collocated services with headspace under the clinical and operational governance of the NLSHD CYMHS.

The CYMHS headspace youth mental health initiative will work alongside and be integrated with our established CYMHS programs including Brolga adolescent inpatient unit, community CYMHS intake and emergency department in-reach consultation, Safeguards, the outreach service for children and adolescents, and the Youth Response Team, among others.

About the Role

Focusing on emerging or first-episode psychosis and other moderate to severe mental health concerns, and embedded within Headspace, the service provides assessment, evidence-based interventions, and collaborative care planning with young people, families, and support systems, ensuring seamless, trauma-informed care between Headspace and LHD services.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will provide expert clinical and operational leadership, working closely with CYMHS and headspace teams to ensure high-quality, integrated care. The role also contributes to teaching, supervision, research, and quality improvement within the District, under NSLHD’s clinical governance and endorsed practice standards.

Purpose of the Position

You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.

This position is temporary with the possibility of extension based on performance, funding and need

Selection Criteria

• MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.

About the Role

The Nurturing Connections: Caregiver-Child Relationship Service in an exciting new Program within the NSLHD Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service. This is a new senior leadership role for an infant/child psychiatrist to join the NC team providing assessment, interventions and coordinated care for infants, children and their families/carers. The successful candidate will be primarily accountable for mental health services to infants and children under five years of age, and their families including parents experiencing non acute mental health difficulties.

The role includes collaboration with mental health clinicians; infant/child health clinician; peer worker and others within the NC service, clinical leadership through maintenance of service delivery, quality improvement activity directed towards increasing evidence-based practice and education, capacity-building and advocacy for infant/preschooler mental health.

This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need

Selection Criteria

• MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
