Workplace Based Assessment Program (International Medical Graduates)
Fairfield Hospital is thrilled to announce its involvement in the International Medical Graduate Workplace Based Assessment Pathways program. This means that you can now join the Fairfield Hospital team and earn your Australian Accreditation whilst working in various departments including Emergency, Paediatrics, O&G and Intensive Care.
This program has limited spots/ availability however if deemed suitable to undertake the Workplace based assessment program it would provide you with the below benefits.
As a part of the program you will be overseen by members of the AMC Board of Examiners and at conclusion of successfully completing the program would receive AMC Certification to continue your Employment at Fairfield Hospital.
(The Workplace Based Assessment Program can be used in place of sitting the second part of AMC Practical Examinations required for International Medical Graduates.)
- Enhance your skills in everyday clinical practice
- Progress you in integrating clinical knowledge and skills as a basis for safe and effective clinical judgements and decision making.
- It also assesses how well you deal with patients and whether you work productively in a team of healthcare professionals.
Our hospital is the perfect teaching environment with over 38 thousand emergency admittances each year and specialised divisions such as our Hand Clinic, Ultrasound/Echo and Orthopaedic surgery. We offer a small, collaborative team who can provide holistic training and rapid career progression.
JMO Wellbeing
At Fairfield Hospital, JMO Wellbeing is at the forefront of our actions. We undertake regular JMO teaching initiatives and ensure that your learning is delivered by experienced consultants from a diverse range of disciplines. We ensure you are supported during these sessions with simple things such as catering and convenient resources. Our DMS and DPET are readily available at Fairfield Hospital and we encourage all staff to draw on the availability of these assets. As a JMO you will have admin assistance at your fingertips and will be heavily supported by a team of friendly and encouraging staff. Programs and initiatives including learning support and counselling are frequently available to help grow our people so that we can better serve our local community.
What you'll be doing
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Minimum of 12 months experience working as a Medical Officer (not observer) , with proven recent clinical ward experience.
- Demonstrated excellent computer and communication skills (written and verbal), ability to document accurate and legible clinical records and provide clear information/directions to peers and patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness to participate in after-hours duty and on-call rosters.
- High commitment to education, Demonstrated commitment to participate in educational activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.

What you'll be doing
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide effective obstetric and gynaecological services to women under supervision, while developing expertise in managing these women in a complex clinical environment.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of at least three postgraduate years including a minimum of 1 year experience in women's health, with clinical competencein perineal repair, interpretation of foetal monitoring, uncomplicated assisted vaginal and caesarean birth and management of obstetric emergencies) Experience assisting gynaecological surgery including laparoscopy is also desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a complex clinical environment, excellent clinical skills and judgment together with teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in the clinical settings and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience and willingness to teach junior medical staff/medical students and a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Preparedness and ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
- Prepared to participate in after hours and on-call work as required.
- Knowledge of relevant NSW Health policy.

What You'll be doing
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. About The Opportunity
COPILOT is a dynamic and exciting service that provides rapid access to multi-disciplinary geriatric assessment (medical, nursing, and allied health) for older people living in the community setting. Referral enables care to be implemented in the patient’s home environment, whether that be in RACH's or their own homes, avoiding unnecessary transfer to hospital and leading to improved patient outcomes.
The COPILOT VMO will provide a high quality clinical service to older people and their families/carers to optimise health outcomes and support clients keeping well in the community. The VMO will provide comprehensive geriatric assessments and evidence-based care to clients residing in their own homes or nursing homes for acute care with the goal of avoiding unnecessary transfer to hospital.
The COPILOT VMO will need strong clinical leadership and decision making skills, have relevant clinical experience in the Aged Care speciality, and preferentially experience in providing community-based care both in a direct and virtual capacity. The position requires compliance with mandatory clinical administration duties, and participation in an on-call roster. The successful candidate should have strong communication skills, be efficient and have excellent time-management skills, and a willingness to join a supportive and dynamic multidisciplinary district-wide service.

An exciting opportunity exists for a trainee to work with The Hospital in the Home. This vocational training Extended Skills post is approved by local Regional Training Providers for General Practice training and for Geriatrics. Hospital in the Homeprovides care in the community for patients who would otherwise be admitted to an acute hospital bed. The service is designed to give patients the choice of care at home rather than as an inpatient, as well as to reduce the length of hospital stay and avoid unnecessary admissions.
Hospital in the Homeprovides an acute treatment service for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, cellulitis and anticoagulation needs, a supported discharge service, a multidisciplinary out-patient facility and management of chronic and complex medical conditions. A patient-centred, evidence-based clinical approach is fostered within the service. This term is offered as a GP Extended Skills, Geriatrics or General Medicine position for 6 months from February to August or August to February. Duties include Clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the Hospital in the HomeService. This will include Home Visits and visits to Residential Aged Care Facilities. Liaison with local General Practitioners is a major part of daily activities and the patient handover is a vital part of the continuum of care. Expectations of the trainee include conducting a quality assurance improvement project during the term, participation in current research and multidisciplinary teaching sessions.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Four years post graduate experience.

The Provisional Fellow shall participate in continuing medical education (CME) and quality assurance (QA) programs, and in the supervision and teaching of other junior medical staff.

- Current registration (or eligible for registration) with the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (CICM).
- Successful completion of foundation (6 months) and core training (24 months) in intensive care as specified by CICM, including the Primary CICM examination, or equivalent.

- Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary, evidence-based best practice.
