Employment Type: Casual, up to 38 hours per week. Temporary roles are available to visa holders, with contracts issued in accordance with visa conditions. Visa holders will be considered where no suitable Australian citizen or permanent resident is identified.
Remuneration: $72.41 - $73.89 per hour+ 12% Superannuation + Salary Packaging

- Deliver comprehensive mental health assessments and recovery-oriented, strengths-based care within busy Emergency Department settings.
- Provide clinical leadership while contributing to education, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Mental Health CNCs, Psychiatry Registrars, Consultant Psychiatrists, Allied Health Professionals, and the Mental Health Demand Management Team.
- Access ongoing professional development, shared learning opportunities, and a strong network of Emergency Department Mental Health Clinicians across SWSLHD.

Are You the Right Fit?
We are seeking an experienced and motivated mental health clinician who thrives in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care. This role will suit a collaborative leader with strong clinical expertise, a commitment to service improvement, and the ability to support positive outcomes for consumers, carers, and the broader health service.
- Demonstrated experience as a Mental Health CNC, or acting experience in a Mental Health CNC role.
- Strong mental health assessment skills, with experience working within an Emergency Department environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and hospital services.
- Experience contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance activities, and hospital-wide operational initiatives.
- Understanding of key performance indicators, including length of stay, bed occupancy, incident management, and restrictive practices, and their impact on service delivery and consumer outcomes.
Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which the employee is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
- Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty.
- Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in mental health assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and care planning, with the ability to provide expert consultation and leadership in the management of consumers presenting with complex mental health needs within an emergency department setting.
