We are seeking a committed Junior Medical Officer to become part of our experienced and supportive Emergency Department team at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital. You will play a vital role in delivering patient-centred emergency care while benefiting from exceptional supervision, teaching and development opportunities. What you'll be doing
To provide emergency medical care to patients at the Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital (SMH) Emergency Department while developing experience and expertise under the supervision of Emergency Specialists.

The position of Unaccredited Trainee would suit a junior medical officer of at least 4 years post graduate experience who wishes to gain clinical experience and training in Emergency Medicine prior to formal critical care training. The Unaccredited Trainee will participate in a seven-day per week roster which includes evening and night shifts and will demonstrate proficiency in the initial assessment and management of all medical and surgical emergencies in paediatric and adult patients.

About the Role

The Medical Officer will work under an appropriate level of supervision, commensurate with their level of experience and competence, to assess, diagnose, treat and provide clinical consultation for patients of all ages presenting with a broad range of conditions. The role incorporates work across a variety of clinical settings and participation in a seven-day rotating roster, including day, evening and night shifts.

As a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Medical Officer will work collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health staff to deliver safe, high-quality patient care. The position requires the ability to manage urgent and sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality, while actively contributing to team meetings, quality improvement initiatives and departmental decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

·Deliver high-quality emergency care to the population of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District in accordance with the ethical and professional standards of the Medical Board of Australia and the objectives of the ISLHD Emergency Services Program.

·Provide effective and evidence-based medical care to patients under supervision and, where appropriate, independently within a complex clinical environment.

·Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

·Participate in the supervision, teaching and support of junior medical staff.

·Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

·Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance and departmental education activities.

·Actively participate in a seven-day roster, including day, evening and night shifts.

·Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and communication.

The position supports pre-requisites for future training positions with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM).

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia with a minimum of Level 2 Supervision. This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent's registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  2. At least four years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
  3. Significant experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Effective oral and written communication skills and demonstrated good organisational and time management skills.
  6. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self education.
  7. Ability to participate in a 24 hour shift work roster.
